I guess I'm an official ROCKTOGRAPHER now!

Ever hear of Trash the Dress? Well DUH, right? Who hasn't?

Well the folks that came up with that site and idea have created another two sites called Modern Photographers where they have created a network of, well, Modern Photographers that think outside of the norm. It's a great place for brides to find photographers that are non-traditional and more artistic and I am honored to be a founding member! (along with a great list of other fantastic CT photographers!)

In keeping with their 'out of the box' mentality (I actually believe they have ANOTHER site called 'Don't Box Us In') they have created a site specifically to feature creative ring shots from their founding members of Modern Photographers.

So you all KNOW I just HAD to enter some stuff!!

Well today I am their FEATURED ROCKTOGRAPHER!!! I have 21 images up there from weddings I shot this past season, and one that squeaked in from last year (Kristin and Matt, Becky & Steve, Melissa & Bill! HEY!)

Check out the shots HERE!

trash the dress, hartford style

Amanda Harris took this shot of me shooting! Where do I think I am, Antarctica??

So on Sunday I coordinated an impromptu trash the dress session with my good friend and trainer Renee at Hartford's Constitution Plaza. I feel like I have spent the past week there, I had another two shoots there on Saturday- one was a head shot and then I had a friend of mine, Mike, shoot me. That is a whole other blog post, wait for it! But on a side note, can I get an big ASS HELL YEAH for my new blog header pictures, courtesy of my man Mike! And to Martin for fixing the stupid code crap that was stretching me out and totally taking away from my svelte new figure!

OK, enough about me...for now!

So Renee was a trooper for us all- and there was a crowd of us- I called my great friends Paul & Krystal of Studio Foto and the amazing Amanda Harris of Orchard Cove Photography to shoot with Mike and I. Everyone was dressed like we were in the Arctic, except our fearless model Renee! She had on jeans and long johns underneath her dress and had to warm up in between shots. We didn't have a lot of time to shoot as the weather didn't really cooperate, in addition to the absolute freezing temperatures it started to rain, and then the wind would kick up. My camera was SOAKED, I was getting rain on my mirror and I had a bear of a time focusing- so it was a literal race against the clock when it started really raining we had to duck for cover. Luckily since Mike and I had shot there on Saturday we knew of a place that had a whole covered area that we were able to set up in, which let us do some fun painting with light series.

All in all this was so much fun I am setting up my very own session soon, so check back for THAT! My shooters Jean and Mike are going to have a field day, especially since I am so bossy- but I have some fun ideas that they are going to run with! Their only goal: make me look HOT!!

Thanks Renee for 'chilling' with us!!

trash the dress re-work

I have been working and re-working some images from my shoot with the lovely Mary & Justin and stevedepino.com and wanted to share what I came up with. I know it is becoming more popular now to add textures and layers to images, and for that I am glad, actually. I have always seen my images as layered, complicated things, not always so cut and dry and done in camera. I see things as Polaroid transfers, prints on watercolor paper that got a little wet, an old faded image that is timeless and still beautiful 50 years later. So with that in mind (and it's in mind most of the time, truth be told!) I re-visited my work and made it how I truly originally saw it and am very happy with how the images presented themselves to me- they were like, OK, NOW we're done! Hope you enjoy them!

trash talking with .com

Thursday brought some serious rain to my little old Hartford area- enough to spoil our original plan for our inaugural trash the dress shoot with the awesome Mary & Justin, which I am going to still do so I won't divulge that- but enough to throw Stevedepino.com and I for a loop- it was quite comedic actually, watching us pace around, get distracted by tornado warnings (!) turned out to be a false alarm, thankfully- to try and re-focus ourselves. We decided to go with the deluge and many flooded areas that resulted and we had so much fun! Tell me you don't love our bridal party shot! (these were just curious onlookers who we decided to add when we wrapped up!) We decided to end on our food fight, because well, then the dress would be totally trashed! It was super fun to watch Mary & Justin go nuts with the toppings- and it created some really cool detail shots for us! Steve and I were both totally amped up, for a variety of reasons, one being this was our first trash session; the other being that our subjects are photographers themselves and then that their photographer for their October wedding is the one and only David Jay...no pressure! As usual we had a blast, laughed more than ever and created some awesome stuff!
