here at last

Last night marked the culmination of 2 1/2 years of hard, heart & back breaking work. And was it worth it! I can't believe the overwhelming turnout of people who came out to support not only me but the women in the show who put themselves out there physically and emotionally for everyone to see. It was so powerful for me to look around and see these women arrive and react to seeing their picture up for all to see- BIG, present- vibrant. One of my favorite moments was watching my best friend Dominique's eyes well up with tears as she looked at her daughter's image. I had to shut myself off emotionally last night and throughout the project from time to time, because the sheer emotion of it all was so powerful and tangible, and I was feeling overwhelmed. There were so many women who came with their moms and sisters and daughters- I was so proud that this became such a way for these women to bond.

I put a book together of all of the women that I photographed paired with their answers that is for sale on Blurb.com. I was online making sure it is easy to find it and saw that it was listed under 'staff picks!' Thanks Blurb! :)

I am also offering a 10x10 premium book- please email me for that directly: carlateneyck@comcast.net.
Throughout the day I had Face First Films aka the amazing Jeff Reilly along with the super talented Bob 2.0 filming interviews with me and three other women that participated in the show. It was a fun distraction for me that made the entire day so much more fun! I cannot tell you all how excited I am to see what Jeff comes up with! Thanks to everyone for all of their help, incredible energy and support throughout the entire process, it is what got me through it all!

NEGATIVE! You don't need therapy Jeff you need me around to constantly post slide shows of you until you can accept how adorable you are. Seriously. Did you not just read Susannah's post? That she had to come back and re-post about?

Your work is amazingly beautiful in its depth and nuance. That the portraits were so different from each other shows how readily you saw the differences, both stark and subtle, in each of the women. Thank you for letting us see them through your eyes.

I still choke up whenever I think of Vicki's beauty in your image of her. I can't wait for my book to arrive to admire it--and the others--more!
Congratulations on such a successful show and such an impressive body of work.

Sister O- I knew you were tho I'd be lying if I wasn't hoping that you and Carter would leap out from behind a pillar or something at the show. Coulda been that 'surprise element' that Jeff totally needs for our documentary!

Carla that was a fantastic slideshow. Looooved the song.
You truly are an amazing photographer (and person too!) and I think your book demonstrates that perfectly. Really, really amazing work. My wife loves you now. :)
It was also a super-fun day hanging out with you, Sue and the rest of the crew. Wow, that was an awesome rhyme. Oh and thanks for making me look not-nerdy again. ;)

2.0- you were so much fun to have around, so calming and low key- the perfect ying to my super spazzy yang- I feel so lucky to have had the pleasure of working with you twice in recent weeks and can't wait for round three! I was telling Jeff that your wife and his future wife should be calling for some wallets of the two of you- YOWZA! Should I send her the one of you in the boa?
