hostile about hosta

This morning I got to get down and dirty in my front yard garden with my little Georgie right there helping. The hostas (or pasta, as Georgie calls them) had to get moved since we are removing a few h-u-g-e trees in the front. My Mom had planted them ages ago and would always yell at us to "GET OUT OF MY HOSTA!" My sisters and I referenced this quote at her burial last June, actually. It was so my Mom to love the weird stuff in life! I wanted to give my Mom a little shout out so I went through my old garden and picked various things to say that related to my Mom and her love of gardening and of life in general. She loved lamb's ear- it is so super soft and she loved to rub it between her fingers; I picked some mint to bring because she would always tell me never to plant it unless you wanted to have it take over your garden, which mine totally did; she also used to make this iced tea with it and purposely not add sugar so us kids would not drink her tea! how very slick of her in hindsight!; I brought something that I did not know the name of and most people would probably call a weed but to me it was beautiful. My Mom always said a weed was only a weed if you didn't want it to grow there. This is true of all us kids, us weeds, we were rag-tag and crazy, all from different backgrounds (five of us nine were adopted) but she wanted us all, and we flourished for it. So today Mom I moved those dang hosta so I can now yell at my kids to "GET OUT OF MY HOSTA!" and hopefully, someday, be just like you.

What a beautiful tribute to your Mom! Isn't it wonderful how Mom's have the ability to be with us even after they are gone? Remind me to share a song with you called "Just Like You". Thanks for sharing!

but seriously, you've gotta yell it from the porch with a cup of coffee in hand. mom style.

The best is yesterday right after posting this I was in the backyard with a gaggle of neighborhood kids, yelling 'GET OUT OF THE HOSTA!' Seriously. No coffee in hand but I was rocking the flip flops!

Laura- can't wait to hear the song you are talking about! There are so many songs that remind me of my Mom- and every time I heard tham I would change the channel, skip forward, whatever. I realized I had to make myself hear them over and over, and cry cry CRY. Now I can hear these same songs and smile, remember things and not bawl while shopping in public! Though that is always fun too! ;)

carla you are SUCH a good mom...your mama would be so proud. I keep thinking about how I can put into words how beautiful this post was...but every time I try, I fail. I think that's the sign of a truly beautiful tribute. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
